Field Atlas / 100
Reading the horizon…
Click a route to be walked across the 100-mile ring — or take the guide for a walk yourself.
You've reached another corner of the 100-mile ring.
Two UMC campuses. Sixteen rural hospitals. Fourteen real routes across the Llano Estacado. Walk with a 3D field guide who explains the land, the towns, and the distance between a rural ER and a Level I trauma center.
Real coordinates, roads and driving routes. Distances are accurate; the diorama compresses them for walking. UMC's two hospitals sit 8 road miles apart inside Lubbock — this map follows their reach 100 miles into the surrounding counties — plus the groceries, neighborhoods and landmarks of everyday life.
WASD to move, drag to look, Shift to run. Click the ground to send Avery there. Press E near a marker for a field note. The district is alive: a medevac circles overhead, an ambulance runs the H&W route, and people cross the forecourt.
Pick any of the fourteen drives. Avery walks the real OSRM route and explains each stop. Space pauses, → skips a chapter.
Drag to orbit the whole 100-mile disc, scroll to zoom, click a label for its story. The gold ring is the 100-mile line around UMC Main. The pin button shows the true positions of the nine close-in landmarks; every place card links to Google Maps for a visual check.
Open the Places tab and search, or choose Groceries, Housing or Things to do. Click any place for its field note, then walk here. Groceries include Costco, Walmart, Sam's Club, United, Market Street and Mirchi Masala, Lubbock's Indian and South Asian grocery. The Housing layer covers Tech Terrace, Overton, Kings Park, Wolfforth and more.
The clock and weather are fetched live for Lubbock. Open the live chip to study dawn, noon, golden hour or night on the diorama. Avery's narration is pre-rendered with Kokoro-82M; captions always stay in sync.
The nine close-in landmarks are spread apart in the default diorama for legibility. Use the pin button (or this button) to toggle their true coordinates — they overlap, as they do in life. Place cards link to Google Maps. Building models are procedural replicas, not Google 3D tiles.
This is a geographical diorama, not a navigational tool. Positions, road links and driving routes are real; building footprints, vertical scale and the guide are expressive. UMC's two Lubbock hospitals sit 8 road miles apart — the 100-mile ring maps the region they serve, not the distance between the two campuses. Sixteen rural hospitals are shown inside that radius; because roads bend, the longest drives (Hereford and Big Spring) run a little over 100 road miles. Weather and clock are live; scene light is art-directed for legibility. Weather © Open-Meteo. Roads © U.S. Census Bureau TIGER/Line. Driving routes © OSRM / OpenStreetMap contributors. Walkable-world idea inspired by Scenario 3D OS.
